St. Luke's Episcopal Church To Know God and Make God Known

St. Luke's choir is a group of people who love to sing and each contributes to our worship in a unique way as they create  an opportunity to all for fulfilling worship and meditation.  Expressing God in our midst is their dedication.  The group is always welcoming to new members, and  small ensemble and solo work, along with wonderful social occasions are a part of the life of St. Luke's choir singers.  Each year we present both classical and contemporary music: highlights of our year include Lessons and Carols before Christmas and the Sunrise Service on Easter.

Many members of the St. Luke’s family find a form of service, a mission to which they feel called, which feeds their souls and suits their talents and /or passions, and benefits St. Luke’s and the community. My personal favorite is our music program.  We are blessed to have a choir who really enjoy singing for God and for our church. We are a small, but friendly group. Our number varies from 10-12 in the summer to 20 or so in the winter season. We have a wide range of musical backgrounds. Some of us have musical training, and others simply enjoy singing with friends. We practice on Sunday mornings at 9 a.m. before the 10 a.m. service, and on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. from the end of September until Pentecost. The highlight of our musical year is Lessons and Carols, a service comprised of musical selections and scriptural readings which was begun by King’s College, (Cambridge) in 1918. We began working on this wonderful program during the summer, in order to be ready for our December 11 performance. We feature sacred Holiday music based on a theme, and include guest instrumentalists and soloists. This program is our Christmas gift to the community. The free will offering that we collect helps to fund our music program at St. Luke’s.

I owe a great deal of my passion for our choir program to our wonderful director, Anne Hlasnicek. Anne is an incredibly talented organist/pianist, as well as a very patient and inspiring choir director. She challenges and encourages us to continue to learn and grow as choir members. Anne has also allowed me to explore different avenues of musical expression, both as a soloist (for those of us who enjoy it), and as member of St. Luke’s Women’s Ensemble.

If you enjoy singing, no matter what your level of musical training, please consider joining us in St. Luke’s choir. Perhaps you’d like to try it for the Christmas season. Please feel free to contact me for more information at mcfeerr@gmail.com.

Come help us “Make A Joyful Noise!”
