Message about Cursillo

Message about Cursillo from Andrea Thomas, the Lay Director for the Cursillo Movement. May 4th is Cursillo Sunday. Exciting things are happening in the Cursillo Movement in Southeast Florida, and you can be a part of that! A woman's weekend is coming up in July (17-20) and a men's will be held in September (25-28). For those of you who have been, you may want to be identifying candidates to attend, speaking to your priests and praying for them. After this, get them to fill out an application and get it in as soon as possible. We would like to have all applications for the women's in by June 15th and the men's by August 24th so we may adequately prepare. Remember to tell those filling in applications that only 42 individuals get to attend one Cursillo, and the candidates are divided evenly between the North, South and Central sectors. So, if they don't get called this time, they may have to wait until next year. Hurry and get those applications in; as those received first are called first. Please contact Omar Borges 287-2164, Alison Sharp 651-5053, or Gerald Scott 288-5263.

WHY DON'T YOU BECOME A GREETER?

Nothing is more important than knowing we are God's beloved. Our first work is to remind others. This is work for every member of the congregation. We invite those who would like to become Greeters for St. Luke's, and those who are already Greeters, to our Welcoming the Visitor meeting on Sunday, March 30 at 11:30 am in the Parish Hall. This is an important step in our ministry as Greeters to know God and make God known.

PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY

Once Again the Daughters of the king are asking for volunteers to knit or crochet prayer shawls that will be given out to people who you feel would get comfort from having a shawl. Please feel free to ask for a shawl. Just call me, Ginny Gearhart 283-8107 or Carolyn Scocca 2834305 and we will gladly help you choose a shawl and give you a lovely prayer card from the D.O.K. to go with it.

A basket will be in the back of the church to put completed shawls in and also there will be instructions to make a shawl. They are very easy to make and are "do-able' for a new knitter or crocheted. Please think about becoming a member of this wonderful ministry that has brought comfort to so many.

IS THERE A WAY IN YOUR WILL?

Fact: More than half of all church members die without a will.

No matter how large or small an estate you leave, it's absolutely critical that you have a will. If you don't, the state will divide your assets among your spouse and children (regardless of age). The state also will appoint an administrator, who may charge your estate hefty fees. And the state will make no charitable contributions-because the state wants to collect as much tax as possible from your estate! To learn more about how to make sure that what you leave when you go ends up where you want it to, call the Parish Office and ask for the free planner.

DO YOU KNOW THAT ST. LUKE'S HAS A LABYRINTH?

The labyrinth is an ancient pattern symbolic of the Path of Life, the journey toward that which is life-giving and holy. St. Luke's is a copy of the one on the floor of Chartres Cathedral in France. Ann and Jo Phillips have been the guardians of our canvass labyrinth for a number of years. Ann has been a facilitator, explaining what is a labyrinth and how to walk one, and Joe has done the set up wherever the ministry has taken them. The Philips are moving to Puerto Rico shortly. We thank them especially for this ministry. Sharron Thomas will be continuing in their footsteps (bad pun).

For those interested in being a part of the Labyrinth:

* Strong people are needed to set up and take down the canvass which is stored in the Parish Hall. The program has been done at St. Luke's, both inside and outside, and at other locations. Please call Sharron Thomas at 692-3191.

BINGO

COME ONE, COME ALL - Every Friday at 11:30 AM, join us in the Parish Hall for a lot of fun and fellowship, plus the chance to help St. Luke's give all their profit to Outreach. We have given, so far, to Alzheimer's for locator bracelets; to a mission to build a school; to a Lutheran Church for Bibles that were burned in a fire; for a roof lost to a Church from the hurricane; to a quilting group who make quits for needy babies--and that's only the beginning. Hope to see you on Fridays!!!!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

We need someone to serve the coffee hour after the 10:00 am service on Sunday mornings. There is a sign-up sheet for folks to take turns bringing the pastries.
